The School of Veterinary Medicine

 is seeking a full-time, day shift, Monday through Friday, Histologist/Necropsy tech. (Alternating 2 weeks in necropsy, two weeks in histology.) We are also seeking a fulltime assistant position, day shift, Monday through Friday, rotating through (depending on need for help), the histology lab, necropsy department, and glass wash facility. This position also has the opportunity to train as a histologist and advance, depending on the individual’s capability and interest. MCHS - NW WI - Eau Claire




Receive direction from Lab Manager, Regional Director, Operations Supervisor/Technical Supervisor and the Laboratory Medical Director. Work cooperatively with Administration, Physicians, Allied Health Staff, patients and residents. Non - exempt position. The histology laboratory contributes a valuable service to help pathologists provide patient diagnoses.  The histotechnician prepares tissues for microscopic diagnosis by a Pathologist utilizing a variety of manual, semi-automated and automated technologies.  The histotechnician is responsible for maintaining the integrity of tissue through the pre-analytic to post-analytic phase in the Anatomic Pathology laboratory.  The histotechnician is responsible for producing slides of good to superior quality and works closely with the Pathologist to provide slides in an efficient and timely manner.


Minimum of an Associates Degree in Histology. Completion of a clinical practicum in an Anatomic Pathology laboratory. 

Additional Qualifications

Computer skills. Must be highly organized, efficient, detail oriented and capable of multi-tasking. Ability to work independently. Must possess good manual dexterity. Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and written. Must possess problem solving skills.

License or Certification

HT(ASCP) or equivalent.  Must obtain registry within six months of becoming registry eligible upon employment.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $19.22 per hour.
